Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is hypnosis real? Does it work?
A: Hypnosis has been safely and effectively used for hundreds
of years, and is recognized and used by such organizations as the
American Medical Association (AMA), the American Pediatric Association
(APA), and the British Medical Association (BMA). Today hypnosis
is used in a variety of fields, including medicine, dentistry, law
enforcement, professional sports and education.
Q: Can hypnosis make me do something against my will?
A: Absolutely not. Hypnosis cannot make you do what you do not
want to do. But it is a powerful tool for empowering you to do what
you WANT to do – in this case, stop smoking.
Q: Will I fall asleep, be unconscious, and/or experience
amnesia?
A: No. You will remain aware, be able to think and hear throughout
the hypnosis session. You will remember everything.
Q: What if I am not hypnotizable?
A: Generally speaking, every normal person is "hypnotizable."
The only exceptions are people with an IQ below 70 or those suffering
from a severe mental disorder and/or so heavily medicated that they
cannot understand basic language.
Q: How does the method you use differ from standard hypnosis
methods?
A: Studies have shown that standard hypnosis can achieve success
rates of up to 36%. A double blind scientific study conducted between
January 2000 and March 2002, however, showed that smokers who received
the advanced hypnosis techniques employed by the Stop Smoking in
One Hour™ system successfully stopped smoking over 95% of
the time. It’s that amazingly high success rate that allows
us, and only us, to offer our lifetime back-up guarantee!
Q: What does hypnosis feel like?
A: You want to know what it feels like right now? Just close your
eyes, take in a deep breath and exhale slowly and relax your body…
then open your eyes. That’s it! Nothing weird or unusual,
you just feel relaxed. It feels a bit like when you first wake up
in the morning – that sort of in between state.
All of us experience forms of light hypnosis on a daily basis.
For example, ever been so engrossed in a TV program that you didn’t
hear or didn’t want to hear someone in the room trying to
talk to you? Well, that was a light form of hypnosis!
Q: What is the difference between “hypnosis”
and “hypnotherapy”?
A: The words are often used interchangeably. When “hypnosis”
is used by a trained professional for therapeutic purposes, it is
called “hypnotherapy”.
Q: If hypnosis can’t make me do what I don’t
want to do, then why can a stage hypnotist make someone cluck like
a chicken?
A: Stage hypnotists are entertainers, not therapists. They create
the illusion that they “control” their subjects. When
a hypnotized subject is made to cluck like a chicken onstage, it
sure looks like the hypnotist is controlling his subject! But in
reality, stage hypnotists select volunteers who want to
act silly and entertain an audience.
Q: What if I tried hypnosis before and it didn't work?
A: When people say they tried hypnosis and it didn't work, I always
say, "The question isn't 'Does hypnosis work?' because it always
works when it's done correctly. The question is "How good is
the hypnotherapist and the method he/she is using?" Other hypnotherapists
use a very basic form of hypnosis, which produces a 30-50% success
rate. The way that we get over a 95% success rate is that we use
a combination of advanced hypnosis techniques. Our success rate
is the reason why we back up our work with a lifetime guarantee.
Q: Don't some other hypnotherapists CLAIM a 95%
success rate?
A: They may claim it, but the question is "Do they back it
up with an unconditional lifetime guarantee?" The reason they
don't is because they can't. They use a very basic form of hypnosis,
which produces a 30 - 50% success rate.
Q: What about group hypnosis?
A: Group hypnosis has been tested and found to produce only a
30% success rate because it typically uses a very basic form of
suggestion-only hypnosis, and in a group situation they cannot tailor
the program to your individual needs.
Q: What state guidelines govern hypnosis?
A: Hypnosis is not licensed by, nor required to be licensed by,
the State of California. Treatment with hypnosis is complementary
to the healing arts licensed by the state. California Senate Bill
577 gives you access to unlicensed alternative or complementary
health care practitioners and it requires that they follow certain
guidelines and restrictions. Hear are the things that unlicensed
health care practitioners are not allowed to do:
• Perform any form of surgery, or any procedure that punctures
your skin or harmfully invades your body.
• Use X-ray radiation.
• Prescribe prescription drugs, or recommending that you
discontinue drugs that were prescribed by a licensed physician.
• Set fractures.
• Treat wounds with electrotherapy.
• Put you at risk of great bodily harm, serious physical
or mental
illness, or death.
• Imply in any way that they are licensed physicians.
